Who runs Jesus for Busy People?
Jesus for Busy People is an initiative of Freedom Matters Today. My name is Michael J. Sutton, and I am the founder of Freedom Matters Today, looking at freedom from a Christian perspective. My background was in academic research, and then theological study and pastoral work. When the pandemic struck, I joined the freedom movement, opposing lockdowns, mandates and vaccine passports.
After 3 years of Freedom Matters Today, and 10 books later, I have decided to pivot away from a political program to the next step in our journey, a study of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus.
The humble beginnings of Freedom Matters Today
Like many people, I started Freedom Matters Today from scratch, learning how to create websites and write blogs, how to craft and edit podcast episodes, and record them, how to research, edit, write and publish books.
I came up with the imprint of Hidden Road Publishing and through it have published 14 books, 10 books with Freedom Matters Today, 3 novels, and 1 academic text on low birthrates in developed nations.
Over the last three years, I built my online presence through various interviews with other podcasters and radio programs and also ran a book fair at a conference. You learn many things on a journey like this, especially the hidden agendas that are out there, the desire for profit over authenticity, and the real obstacles for niche voices in a corporatized marketplace of ideas.
Christians are losing the internet space
I realized that podcasts were increasingly shaping the global communication spaces, but that Christians were lagging, something that we have not seen before.
In the age of radio and TV, Christians have been pioneers of engaging with new forms of media but not so on the internet/podcasting world. I felt God was calling me to enter the podcasting space again with a crazy, bold, and ambitious project to bring daily podcasts on the person of Jesus to as many listeners as possible.
Jesus for Busy People is not your typical podcast
The problem is that we are all busy, so busy these days and traditionally, podcasts are long, rambling, and conversational. Jesus for Busy People will be different.
Imagine having a short chat with someone about one aspect of the life of Jesus, with one main point, something to ponder and leave with your friend as you go about your day, something true, something grounded in the Bible, something authentic about the life and significance of Jesus.
That is the gist of Jesus for Busy People, a short reflection on Jesus, for busy people, in our busy world today. I hope you can join us. Jesus for Busy People is a daily private podcast subscription run by Freedom Matters Today, looking at freedom from a Christian perspective.
As a private podcast, it is available only to members as a personal download, and a new episode will be available each day, every day. Like all private podcasts, there is a small fee, but this is essential to keep the ministry growing well into the future.
Jesus for Busy People is a daily private podcast, which means that when you subscribe to the podcast, you will receive a daily email notifying you that a new episode has been uploaded. This unique code will enable you to download the episode for your personal use and listen to the podcast through your preferred podcast app.
Which church do you represent?
There is not agenda or politics to Jesus for Busy People, just Jesus. I don’t represent any church or denomination or sect. I am a simply a Christian, a follower of Jesus. I work independently of any Christian organization, though I was ordained in the Anglican tradition in 2017.
Why should we pay for it? We want freebies.
If you want free content, then there are plenty of options, but you get what you pay for, and in Christian content, that means a cut and paste job, watered down coffee, and reheated microwave pizza. Others will pay a fortune each week in church for one sermon a week that the minister has copied from the net or nicked from someone else.
Follow the money. Being a minister can be lucrative and especially if you get a gig in the broader Christian charity industry. Those guys are raking it in, for Jesus, of course, but would any of these highflyers with their designer clothes, nice car and home, work for nothing? Of course not, but if so, why do you support them with your charitable donations. The salaries of Christian leaders have skyrocketed in recent decades, the number of lucrative Christian jobs has proliferated, the power of Christian corporations has grown, but guess what, fewer and fewer people are coming to know Jesus.
This is because God is giving Christians what they want – money and power. I am not interested in either. Money and power are the paths to hell, and many in the church today are running, and leaping, and jumping for joy, all the way to perdition. Hard questions need to be asked about the income of Christian leaders, and Christian charities, but don’t expect that anytime soon. Too many people benefit from the Christian church charity gravy train, and they are laughing all the way to the bank (all tax free too!)
If you wish to support Jesus for Busy People, we do not accept donations, but please subscribe to the podcast or gift a subscription to someone you know.
The cost is modest but competitive and is designed to enable me to broaden the scope of this podcast across the world. This fee will stay the same and it will not be tiered, nor will there be categories of support. It is one fee, for all people.
Who are you?
That is a good question. The Rev. Dr. Michael J. Sutton has been a political economist, pastor, priest, and professor, and now is a published author of 14 books since November 2022, 10 looking at freedom from a Christian perspective, 3 novels and one academic book on the low birthrate problem in the West, called ‘Baby Race.’
He has written on fascism, Covid-19, Ukraine, Christian Nationalism, WW3 and two books on the Gaza genocide. Like many he fought for freedom during the pandemic, setting up Freedom Matters Today in September 2021.
He can speak Japanese and lived and worked in Japan for ten years as a lecturer of International Relations. He has a PhD from the university of Sydney and a Master of Divinity from a Baptist seminary in Sydney. He served as a student minister for 5 years and served a few years as an ordained priest in an Anglo-Catholic Anglican diocese in Australia.
What is your goal?
I believe the presence, the power, and the person of God is found in Jesus, and my goal is for us to deepen our understanding of the authenticity, spirituality, and identity of Jesus as we walk with him each day. I hope you can join Jesus for Busy People.
Remember, freedom matters today because you matter to God
