Where is Jesus now?

One of the problems I have faced with the Covid-19 resistance crowd, those who band together to talk about Covid-19, the lockdowns and the mandates is that beyond the pandemic, we can agree on nothing. It is therefore, a fragmented movement unlikely to bring about much change beyond the issues related to Covid-19. This itself, the unresolved questions, problems, and need for accountability, are all goals that we need to reach, and if we are able, then a great public service will have been achieved.

The myth of ‘going back to normal’ or the idea of a movement for restoration, as a Christian, troubles me. The world doesn’t change from year to year, and while materialism changes, the human heart does not, and the problems of humanity are as real among the rich as they are among the poor. Going back to normal means a return to the same principles that got us into the Covid-19 mess in the first place, the same values that have caused so many problems in our world, and the same selfishness that overrides all things.

Being able to change the human heart is an impossible thing, only possible for God, and from a Christian perspective, there was only one who could do that, and he was Jesus. He provided purification, and cleansing for sin, and once he did that, he sat down at the right hand of God. In other words, he finished his work, and is resting from his labor. His great work was to be able to change our hearts and bring life and freedom. This is the only freedom that matters, the freedom that God brings to our hearts due to the identity, the words, and actions, of Jesus. The rest is background noise.

The identity of Jesus is all about God’s pronouns. He has them, and we need to understand them and see the world from his perspective.

Remember, freedom matters today, because you matter to God.
