It is strange that Netanyahu didn’t quote Genesis 14 as the basis for his war in Gaza. He chose 1 Samuel because he wanted to show a commitment to pursue genocide in Gaza. Otherwise, why quote this text?
In Genesis 14, Abram’s extended family gets caught up in a global conflict, as Lot his estranged nephew is kidnapped, along with thousands of others. Abram, his allies in Canaan, use some skillful tactics and timing, fight, and win a decisive war.
This is an ancient story, but there are many lessons about life that we can draw from it, and we can deepen our understanding about the current genocide in Gaza by studying it.
The world shakes when a good man goes to war, but have you ever met one?
And yes, Senator Payman is correct, what is happening in Gaza is genocide, no doubt about it. History will record the current leadership in Australia, and many Christian leaders as apologists for genocide, not just in Gaza. This war is to deaden our minds to mass murder as our nation prepares for war with China and Russia. God will not forget the wickedness of his people. He never does.
As I said, the world shook when Abram went to war, but it was over in one night, and we still read about it three thousand years later.
This is one of my favorite stories in the entire Bible. It also was the subject of my first sermon ever, given in 2011 under the same title. I never thought I would return to Abram in the way I have. We need more people like Abram today, people of faith, people who listen to God and follow him.
Remember, freedom matters today, because you matter to God.
